Welcome!
You've found your way to Chapter 2 of our family boating adventure. Chapter 1 was spend on BoB, a Macgregor 26m that we loved spending time on -so much so, that it lead us here! So feel free to poke around this site; it will remain a work in progress for a while, but will hopefully become an interesting and informative log that presents our current Chapter well.
Like most boaters, we started playing the 'bigger boat' game a few years ago (around 2011, 5 years in); creating our ideal/wishlist boat. Unaware of the Schock 34PC, it wasn't on our list. As we became more serious 'tire kickers', I was chatting with Cheryl from Blue Water Yachts (where we bought BoB) and she brought up the 34PC (Lisa remembers her telling us it was the perfect 'next boat' for us about 8 years ago, but I don't recall that conversation... guess we're just a little slower on the upswing). I looked into/researched a bit more about them, and they were quickly added up high on the shortlist. So when this listing came up, we made a trip down to look at her and immediately knew it was good fit for us. The rest of the purchasing dance played out in typical fashion, and we now have another exciting adventure we're stepping into.
Boat names have to be the most challenging part of the new owners dance. Our boats' previous owners, upon us asking about the derivation of her previous name, requested that they be allowed to retain that name. It had significant meaning to them, but none to us. So the search began. The long and the short of it is that 'Volti Subito' is an italian musical term meaning 'quick turn' -typically seen at the end of page of music that needs to be turned quickly. Most musicians would recognize the 'V.S.' abbreviation, rather than the full name. It ties in nicely with boating; the desire for a quick rate of turn, or a quick, clean, well executed jibe/tack for instance. Also, although we've been looking at moving up to a bigger boat for a while now, we've been waiting for the right boat to appear and once this one came up, we did move fast, and found ourselves quickly turning the page into our next chapter of boating. Our girls are also dancers, and although not a dance term per se, it ties in there as well. Lastly, although a stretch, it ties in with the manufacturer... we went through a lot of word play trying to come up with a name that incorporated 'Schock' into it, but none of them resonated with us. To further complicate matters, there's a cute dragon gripping a lightening bolt on the stern that the girls didn't want to get rid of. So given that 'Volti', untranslated, also references toward the builder, we decided his name becomes 'Voltimere' -Volti for short- and we had ourselves a boat name.

Safe, educated boating is more enjoyable boating
Part of our enjoyment of boating comes from the knowledge gained both from the courses, and members, of our local Langley Power Squadron. Becoming actively involved in LPS has increased our seamanship, safety, and time spent boating. In Canada, all power boaters, regardless of age are required to possess a PCOC card. Although the PCOC is easily attainable, it is only a start. I would encourage anyone who hasn't already done so, to take the Boating course offered by a local squadron. In my opinion THAT would be a more reasonable 'minimal' standard. Check here for courses/squadrons in your area.
