Although shallow, we made it out fine, but I was watching out for Lisa and one of the other boats nearby, so forgot to luff the head sail as we passed the dignitary vessel (ritual). We pulled into an empty slip at E dock, the designated PRYC dock, and partook in the afternoons events before returning back to our slip. All and all, a fun time. Next year I may have to get myself one of those spiffy blue blazers... but I have another 12 months to decide :^)
To me, boating season is when/what you make it. Lisa feels the cold way more than I do. I love to go out in January... Lisa not so much. But with the full cockpit enclosure & old Volvo diesel heater, the options are always there. We've been on a few day sails since our trip to Roche, but no over-nighters. The weather of late has been quite dry, with short bits of rain, so instead of rinsing the boat clean, it's only served to amplify the grubby 'coal dust coat' boats often wear down at Point Roberts. So with Saturday's opening of the season -and our first participation in a sail past, we went down to the boat late Friday night, so we'd have time to help make VS look a little more respectable for the show. The wind blew up pretty good on Fri. night, but was light for the salute to the commodore. The bigger concern was if we'd make it out of the basin because of a very low tide; in fact, as the flags were being raised ashore, we watched a sailboat come to an abrupt halt as it helped dredge the channel a little bit more.
