Aug. 3 Fossil Bay
We had a nice sail much of the way, waiting to reach Patos to decide between Fossil Bay or continuing on to Jones Isl. We elected to drop the main behind Patos and motor sailed w/Jib to Fossil, as we would have been fighting current the whole way down Presidents Channel.
Aug. 4 Jones Isl (north)
After our 0630 wake-up, we got away promptly as planned -wanting a min. 2.0' tide departing. With following winds & current through Waldron, we travelled 9.5+ kts. motor-sailing, for much of the way. The new battery did much better, and the Balmer state of charge meter I put in last year is recalibrating itself nicely.
There were no buoys free, so we stern tied in 10' of water @ 0' tide. We drifted off course a little on the first set of the anchor, but Lisa did great on the second pass. Locker her down w/1600rpm, took a couple bearings and we were in.
Aug. 5 Deer Harbor Marina
DHM was full when hailed, but a spot (a big on, C13) came avail. while we were tied to the fuel dock while making a wine stop. Nice visits with all the boats around us. I think Charm was weighing her option -the boater along side us would have been quite happy to have her aboard.
The first real 'fog' morning lifted late (1000ish). The air moisture seems to have helped cleanse some of the wildfire smoke as we're seeing a 'blue' sky this morning. Dinner was up at the 'Pie Shack'. Our server was a girl doing a work exchange from an eastern european country. She really enjoyed practicing her conversational english, so we had a nice visit.
We played our departure the next morning to catch the current switch around noon as we target Sucia to set up a short hop back to PRM on Monday.
